Lauren Clinkenbeard is an emerging installation artist whose work focuses on the elements of identity that contribute to the way we see ourselves and others. Her fascination with identity developed during her time as a performance artist and through her study of communications at the University of Washington. Her work explores the impacts of the conscious and unconscious perceptions of the self on our interactions with people, physical spaces, and social structures. Her process begins with a personal practice she calls “memory mining” in order to create reimagined concepts of familiar or personal spaces using found and evocative objects, humorous imagery, and mixed media. The outcomes are environments that have allowed the artist to find meaning and better understand her childhood, imagine a dreamy utopian future, or simply enjoy feeling like a six-year-old again.
