RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Every quarter, we welcome new or returning artists and artist groups to use The Studio. Artists can utilize the space to generate and rehearse new work, host small events such as performances, classes, and exhibitions, or just exist in a distraction free environment. Each artist or arts group gets the studio to themselves for a minimum of 4 hours once a week for three months.

We are currently accepting applications on a rolling basis.

PROGRAM INFO & EXPECTATIONS

Artist Responsibilities:
We are here to provide you a space to work on your creative practice, and you are free to use the space in whatever way serves you best. There is no expectation for a final project or product. All we request is that you please use the space, and complete your monthly report requirements.

Reports:
Artists are required to report monthly on their activities in The Studio in order to continue using the space. The Program Manager will send a request for report materials on the 1st of each month.

  • Please make sure to take photos and document your activities in The Studio.
  • Please keep track of the number of people hosted during each of your sessions. ​

Onboarding:
Once contracts are complete, we will schedule a time for in-person onboarding at The Studio.

  • During onboarding, the Program Manager will show you around the space, review expectations, answer any questions, and give you your assigned keycard.
  • We also use this time to take a portrait of artists for our website, if time allows. You may also send us a different headshot if you prefer.

Studio Maintenance and Clean Up:
Artists are expected to leave the space clean and ready to use after each session. Cleaning supplies are located in the closet. Please make sure to do the following after using The Studio:

  1. Clean the floors with dust mop
  2. Wipe down surfaces / spills
  3. Remove all trash
  4. Take home all props, materials, equipment, instruments, etc. after each session.

Schedule/Attendance:
We do not require you to show up to every session reserved for you, but we do expect that you are committed to using the space as much as you can during the three months that it is reserved for you. If plans change and you plan to skip more than two weeks of your studio time, kindly let the Program Manager know so that we are able to offer available space to another artist.

Keycards:
We will assign you a numbered keycard to gain access to the studio once onboarding is complete. You may use the keycard to access the studio during your scheduled time slot. Please note that keycards are uniquely assigned to each artist and monitored for security and documentation purposes. Please reach out if you need more than one keycard.

Events:
You are welcome and encouraged to use your studio time to host public or private events. The Studio is available for events every Saturday from 6pm – 10pm, for events. Please contact your Program Manager to book a Saturday. You will be asked to fill out an additional event application.

Equipment:
The facility comes with 30 chairs, two portable craft tables, bluetooth speaker system, 24 folding easels, two portable mirrors, and a private restroom.

Internet:
There is public wifi, but it is not very reliable. If your project or event requires internet access, we recommend you bring your own portable router, hot spot, etc.

Marketing:
We are always happy to see what you are up to in The Studio and share your events with our networks!
Tag us at @shunpikearts (Instagram) and feel free to share any digital assets with us at programs@shunpike.org as well.

Community + Collaborating with Other Artists:
Each quarter, we will share the studio schedule for all artists using the space. Artists are encouraged to work with each other, though we do not facilitate these relationships.

Using the Space Post-Residency:
We invite artists back based on how active they were in the space for previous quarters, and the demand for the space. Sometimes we have a waitlist and need to make room for new folks. If you want to continue your residency after 3 months, please let us know, and submit a new application through our website.
