Artist Statement: A series of lanterns dedicated to nocturnal animals of the Pacific Northwest.

Edgewalkers, traveling between trees and city streets, Fox possess extra vision abilities. Guided by magnetoreception, the earth’s magnetic field serves as Fox’s reference point for measuring depth, distance, speed.

Artist Bio: Heather Dawn Sparks conjures the wilds of nature into expressive visual arratives through shifting specters of shadow and light. Metal cut designs are combined with colour changing film, prisms, mirrors, and high lumen lights to create mesmerizing works of illuminated art.

Sparks is based out of the Lookout Arts Quarry, a 61 acre former industrial rock quarry turned collectively owned international events center in Nuwaha territories, Skagit Valley, WA. As a lead builder within an arts community, Sparks consistently collaborates with a diverse team of innovators in dedication to community engaged practices, environmental sustainability, and building inclusive networks of artistry.

Spark’s has created interactive installations in over 6 countries, 30 cities and 40+ global art events. They are currently represented by ArtWA’s Public Art Roster, City of Seattle’s Public Art Roster, and Portland Winter Light’s Sparking Creativity Public Arts Program. They have created sculptural installations at Port Angeles Fine Art Center, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Vancouver Museum of Anthropology, the Lightcatcher Building, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens, and Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, among others. Sparks is an ongoing artist contributor to Lummi Nation’s Children of the Setting Sun Productions dedicated to amplifying Coast Salish culture.

Sparks leads a Femme Metal Collective, sharing skills with femme and trans artists navigating obstacles of gender binary and skill-exclusion in the metal arts industry.
