• Hosted by Sharon Nyree Williams, Scenius Social: On the Record opens the media conversation to artists and creatives who are usually written about, not written to. The evening is designed to give creatives direct access to journalists, editors, and producers, helping them build relationships across industries. This two-way street will offer tools to creatives to talk about their own work, how to tell their story, how to pitch it, and offer relevant perspectives directly from Seattle’s creative scene to the outlets covering Seattle’s news and cultural scenes, for a better understanding and inspiration for what stories are emerging.
• Panel Discussion on the current state of arts & culture coverage in the media in the wake of the World Cup. Panelists include Amanda Manitach (The Stranger), Takiya Ward (Art that Matters), and Jen Dahl (Kiro 7).
• “Pitch the Press” Session (See Submission Form) A pitching contest, seeded with submissions prior to the event, will invite artists and creatives to bring their stories to a panel of editors and producers from local news outlets. Successful pitches may lead to real media coverage, and others receive critical feedback on how to improve their storytelling. Overall, the goal is relationship-building, and a stronger understanding between both sectors.*Submissions end Friday, August 21, 2026 at 6 PM PST
