Monique Hernandez is a Seattle-based artist whose work explores storytelling, heritage, and personal history. Beginning her artistic journey at age four, she later studied at Laguna College of Art and spent over a decade teaching traditional techniques. In 2015, she transitioned to a more vibrant and expressive style influenced by her Mexican-American/Indigenous heritage and family relationships. The passing of her grandmother in 2020 became a defining influence, shaping the emotional and spiritual tone of her recent paintings and illustrations.

Working primarily in acrylic, gouache, and watercolor on canvas and wood, Hernandez blends cultural symbolism with personal narrative. Her work has been exhibited at the Herberger Theater, the Schermer Museum, and the Witchcrafted Art Markets in Arizona. She previously worked in Whittier, California, as a curator and sales assistant at Casita Del Pueblo, supporting exhibitions and Día de los Muertos programming while exhibiting her own work. These experiences continue to inform her evolving practice and connection to the art community.
