High Wall, The

The High Wall is a project co-curated by Britta Johnson and DK Pan that provides large-scale outdoor video projection opportunities for artists. The High Wall’s projection venue is located on the south-west exterior of Seattle’s Inscape building. The project seeks to show the work of artists who are immigrants or have parents who are immigrants, or are otherwise working with themes of immigration/diaspora. Artists are asked to share existing work or to make new work in conversation with the building’s history as Seattle’s Immigration Station. Projections are installed three times a year: during the Inscape building’s Fall and Spring open houses and during the Seattle Art Fair. Installations are up for four nights and are accompanied by a small reception as well as printed programs with a conversation between curators and artist, if the artist wishes. Because only three artists are shown a year, demographic info can be distorting; the project leans toward showing primarily artists of color.
