Contemporary Music/Media Art Project (CMMAP)

In 2019, Contemporary Music/Media Art Project (CMMAP) will present at least one sound art exhibition and one new music performance in a pop-up gallery. We envision this project as the first step toward building a nonprofit cultural center in South Seattle that brings community together through educational programs, performances, residencies, and exhibitions. Our mission is to foster equity, creativity, and humanity through the presentation of excellent electroacoustic music and new media works by living composers and artists. We seek to develop an inclusive communal space with programming that is accessible to all. We strive to engage 500 community members in our first exhibition and performance series. Goals: • Curate excellent works of new music and sound art by living composers/artists, with an emphasis on composers/artists/musicians based in the Pacific Northwest. • Give a platform to artists who have historically faced barriers to presenting their work. These include barriers related to class/access to financial resources, family caregiving, education, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, geography, and age. • Promote innovation and boldness in contemporary art and music with a focus on installation, new media, and technology. • Build community through events and performances. Programs/Activities: • Present new sound art through pop-up gallery exhibitions • Present contemporary music through live performances • Commission new works by living artists/composers • Serve and support communities in South Seattle and the greater city through events and educational programming • Conduct workshops for artists and composers
